Major Food Categories:

The first step in improving your diet is to learn how to replace low quality processed food with high value fresh food in its natural form. Here we explore the major food categories that constitute our diet and learn about their biology, role in our health and digestive system, and how you can eat delicious food in its natural form. So lets get started:

Food is divided into Macro and Micro nutrients.

Macronutrients are those foods that provide us with the calories we need. The major Macronutrients are:

  • Carbohydrates

  • Proteins

  • Fats

Micronutrients, on the other hand, are trace elements that we need for proper body function. We only need a very small amount per day which we can all get through eating healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables. Micronutrients do not provide us with any meaningful calories. These include vitamins and minerals.

Tip: if you eat a healthy diet, you will get all the micronutrients you need, and unless prescribed or suggested by your doctor for a specific medical condition, over the counter vitamins are not needed and can be very costly and sometimes even harmful.

Are essential in proper body functions such as the immune system, bone and brain health. But we only need a very small amount per day. So throw away all your over the counter expensive bottles of vitamins (unless prescribed by your doctor for a specific condition) and just eat a healthy diet .

Water is like the oil in your car. It helps your engine parts work together smoothly. Without enough hydration, your engine will be sluggish and low performing. So, no matter how strong your engine is, without proper hydration it will not work like it should. Here we explain how to hydrate, when to hydrate, and how to gauge your hydration status.
